The UMVA Portland Gallery recently showcased an exhibition titled “In Balance & Imbalance” featuring various artists. The works explored the complex dynamics between symmetry and asymmetry from different perspectives.
The diversity of artistic media and approaches reflected the range of visions. Some incorporated orderly geometrical designs against fluid, abstract shapes. Others used photography to capture dreamy natural environments.
While distinct stylistically, many pieces shared an underlying pursuit of equilibrium between contrasts. The recurrence of order/chaos and structure/randomness suggested a universal human struggle. How do we find balance within inevitable imbalance?
In summary, the exhibition thoughtfully highlighted how artists visualize the interplay between harmony and discord. The blending of these opposing forces spoke to the deeper challenge of resolving duality in life and art.
