This August, MOTHERS Art Gallery in Kennebunkport is pleased to present an exhibition featuring the artwork of Valerie Aponik and Robin Rier. The show entitled “Impressions” will run from August 5th through the 31st.
Aponik and Rier each bring their own contemporary approach to depicting the Maine landscape. Aponik’s textured oil paintings capture the moods of ocean and forest. Rier’s mixed media pieces incorporate found natural materials to recreate the textures she discovers on her hikes.
“By showcasing Aponik and Rier together, viewers can appreciate the diverse ways artists are inspired by the natural beauty of Maine,” said gallery owner Wanda Simmons.
An opening reception on August 5th from 5-7pm will allow guests to meet the artists and learn about their creative processes. Aponik and Rier will be present to answer questions and discuss what inspired the collection of work on display.
Based in Cape Elizabeth, Aponik often creates en plein air studies that lead to larger studio pieces. Her impressionist style uses bold brushwork and thick paint application. Rier’s mixed media assemblages utilize everything from moose antlers to rusted metal.
By presenting these two Maine artists together, the MOTHERS gallery hopes to highlight the breadth of contemporary fine art in the state. The “Impressions” exhibition promises to delight visitors throughout the month of August.
