A new exhibition titled “Collide” by artist Joseph Sheer opened this month at Salt Pond Studio in East Hampton, New York. The show marks Sheer’s first solo exhibition at the Salt Pond Gallery.
The collection features Sheer’s signature bold and gestural abstract paintings. Vibrant hues of red, orange, pink and black dominate the canvas in layers of energetic brushstrokes. Sheer’s intuitive process results in collisions of colors and textures that evoke raw emotion.
In discussing his work, Sheer references forces of nature and change. His art seeks to capture moments of convergence, when contrasting elements meet and reconfigure. The metaphoric title “Collide” speaks to this creative tension.
Raised in New York, Sheer draws inspiration from urban surroundings. His dynamic application of paint to large-scale canvases connect to the pulsing rhythms of city environments. Yet the works also contain peaceful passages of fluid harmony.
Salt Pond Studio co-owner James Hayden remarks, “We’re excited to showcase Joseph’s energy-filled abstract paintings. His bold compositions and textures have a fresh, contemporary appeal.”
Sheer holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design. His work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections across the US. He lives and paints in New York City.
The exhibit continues through July at Salt Pond Gallery, located at 24 Salt Pond Road in East Hampton. Visit the studio to experience Joseph Sheer’s Collide series firsthand.
