A new exhibition titled “Above and Beyond” opened last month at the Wentworth Gallery in the Mall at Short Hills, New Jersey. The show features works by four contemporary artists who each have their own unique style and perspective.
The exhibition includes pieces by pop art icon Peter Max, known for his colorful cosmic imagery. Several of Max’s vibrant paintings that incorporate his signature palette of reds, yellows, and blues are on display. Also exhibited are Mark Kostabi’s quirky and imaginative takes on classic themes, set on his iconic blank background. Kostabi’s work experiments with irony and a tongue-in-cheek look at contemporary society.
In addition to the pop art aesthetic, the show also includes the inspiring maritime creations of Canadian artist Wyland. His works depict whales and other sea life in a hyper-realist and larger-than-life style. The emotional impact of Wyland’s environmental compositions aims to promote ocean conservation.
Rounding out the exhibition are the eye-catching metal sculptures of Gino Miles. Known for his free-form style, Miles’s abstract pieces make striking artistic statements in bronze, stainless steel, and other metals.
Above and Beyond encompasses a wide range of styles, from the cool irony of Kostabi to the planetary associations of Max. Wyland’s marine paintings complement Gino Miles’s flowing metal forms. The four artists’ diverse aesthetics and perspectives provide visitors with much to appreciate and ponder.
The exhibition continues through the end of August at the Wentworth Gallery. Located at the Mall at Short Hills on the lower level near Nordstrom, the gallery is open Tuesdays through Sundays. Come experience the v
