Maine Art Gallery Showcases Works Depicting Mainers at Work

This August, Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset presents “The Maine Spirit,” a special exhibition focused on depicting the resourcefulness and work ethic of Mainers. Featuring over 30 works from regional artists, the show captures Maine residents laboring in industries from lobstering to logging.

“We wanted to showcase the unique Maine spirit embodied in so many traditional regional occupations,” said gallery owner Scott Lawson. “These images celebrate the hard-working men and women who keep Maine’s cultural heritage alive.”

Contributing artists include painters like Meredith Branz and photographers such as Brian Dunlap. A range of media from watercolor to oil to black and white photography provide diverse perspectives on Maine’s working class subjects.

An opening reception takes place on August 5th from 4-6pm, providing a chance to meet participating artists while enjoying themed refreshments. The “Maine Spirit” exhibit remains on display through September 2nd.

With its timely subject matter, the show promises to resonate with both locals and visitors to Maine Art Gallery this summer. Lawson hopes the exhibit deepens appreciation for those capturing Maine’s enduring work traditions through art.
